Toyin Ojih Odutola
Toyin Ojih Odutola is a visual artist who creates drawings utilizing a variety of media. With any given tool, she emphasizes how an image is a striated terrain to mine beyond representation. Born in Ile-Ife, Nigeria in 1985, she earned her BA from the University of Alabama in Huntsville and her MFA from California College of the Arts. She currently lives and works in New York, New York.
Ojih Odutola has participated in solo and group exhibitions at several institutions, including the Contemporary Museum of Art St. Louis, Seattle Museum of Art, Brooklyn Museum, Indianapolis Museum of Contemporary Art, National Academy Museum of Art in New York, Studio Museum in Harlem, Aldrich Contemporary Art Museum, Chinese Culture Center of San Francisco, and the Menil Collection.
She has held residencies at Headlands Center for the Arts, Tamarind Institute, Flying Horse Editions, and Yale University’s Summer Art Fellowship.
Her works are in the public museum collections of Baltimore Museum of Art, Birmingham Museum of Art, Philadelphia Museum of Art, Whitney Museum of American Art, Hood Museum of Art at Dartmouth College, Maier Museum of Art at Randolph College, Honolulu Museum of Art, and the National Museum of African Art (Smithsonian Institute, Washington, D.C.).
